The internet is rife with stories and reports about iPad 3 launch. Even Channel NewsAsia carried a very brief report on AllThingD.com article on the probable iPad 3 launch in the first week of March 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

There is no leaked photo or spec yet – I couldn’t find any – only speculations. The new iPad 3 is said to be faster and has a higher resolution display, possibly 2048 by 1536.

If the rumors were true, we can expect the iPad 3 release date in late March or early April for USA market and possibly iPad 3 release date in Singapore to be May or June.

I used the iPad and iPad 2, also the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S. Unless the iPad 3 has some revolutionary features at an attractive price point, I don’t think I will buy it. I will rather go for an Android tablet, especially a 7″ Samsung tablet.

Why Not a Smaller iPad 3?

I am already using the MacBook Air. I don’t want to carry another 10″ device. I want something smaller than my MacBook Air but more powerful, faster and has a larger display than the iPhone 4S. I also want the battery life to last more than 12 hours so that I don’t have to charge it every day. I am not concerned about Siri and USB port or external card slot. I just want to be able to read a book, watch a movie or reply a full length email on a small, thin, lightweight and long lasting tablet.

Is that too much to ask for?

The IT Show 2012 will be held from Thursday, 8 to Sunday, 11 March. The 4 days IT Show is expected to draw ten of thousands of visitors and generate millions of dollars in sales. ASUS Notebook and Tablets

Asus Zenbook and Transformer Prime tablet will be the star attractions at this year’s IT Show. The Zenbook was announced last year and we expect a hefty drop cut during this show.

The new version of Eee Tablet Transformer, the Transformer Prime, has been well recieved by major tech gadget reveiw sites. Hoperfully, we can see a more competitive pricing and ample stock.

Canon DSLR – The EOS 600D

Still the first popular and sought after entry level DSLR, the Canon EOS 600D is the number 1 in my list of DSLR cameras among Nikon, Sony and Olympus. The EOS 600D appeals to the growing number of female photographers. The guys are getting it for their girlfriends!

For something smaller and more pocketable, the Canon IXUS 230HS and IXUS 310HS are your best bets. You won’t go wrong with a Canon digital compact.

Dell XPS 13

The Dell XPS 13 is attractive because you get a 13.3-inch display in a form factor typically found on an 11.6-inch laptop. It may not be the thinnest ultrabook, but at 1.36kg it is very light for a 13.3″ laptop. It also has an impressive 9 hours battery life. Let’s hope we could see this new XPS at the IT Show.

Singtel Fibre Broadband Promotion

Not just Singtel, but also M1 and Starhub will be at the IT Show to sign up as many new fibre broadband users as possible. We expect “free” Macbook or notebooks to be bundle with a 2-year fibre broadband contract.

Beside fibre broadband, there will be promotion on wireless broadband plan too. So if you are thinking of the iPad2 or an Android tablet, wait for the IT Show promotion!

For the past year, I have been travelling quite a bit and this year I’ll probably do the same. So, I will visit this year’s Natas Fair 2012 to find out the latest favorite destinations and check on the prices of package tours to a couple of places. I want to visit Mongolia and Korea. I reckon package group tours will be the better option than free-and-easy package because the language barrier.

Pre Natas Fair 2012

In order to find out as much information as possible on these 2 countries before I visit Natas Fair 2012 at Singapore Expo, I also googled for pre natas fair promotion on these destinations. To my disappointment, there wasn’t any useful information. I was hoping that bigger tour agencies in Singapore, such as Chan Brothers, CTC Travel or SA Tours will advertise or publicise when and where they’ll hold their Pre-Natas Fair promotions. No info on that either. Not giving up, I asked my friends via Facebook and was told that many, if not all the Pre Natas promotions are held at Suntec City over the weekends.

I agree to the advice on arriving an hour after the official opening hour. Two years ago, I was arrived at Singapore Expo just before 10am and have to queue for 20 minutes to get in. When I was leaving after an hour or so, there was no queue.

I only got to know about the lunar eclipse which could be seen in Singapore a couple of hours before it happened on the night of 10 Dec 2011. It was a cool windy night and the sky was clear. Rarely we have so little clouds and even rarer a chance to witness a total lunar eclipse from my home in Singapore.

In fact, I have not seen a lunar eclipse. So this is my first attempt at taking photos of a total lunar eclipse with a compact camera.

iPhone 4S will be available in Singapore on 28 October. This is the launch date posted on the official Singapore Apple Online Store web page. I reckon the local telcos, especially Singtel will be able to start sell the iPhone 4S on that date too.

No pricing of the new iPhone 4S in Singapore dollar yet, however, I expected the price of the iPhone 4S without contract to be same as iPhone 4. SGD888 for 16GB and SGD1,048 for the 32GB model.

At the time of writing, there is no news from any of the telcos: Singtel, Starhub or M1 on their official launch date of iPhone 4S in Singapore yet. Meanwhile, we just have to wait for a few more days for the confirmed date and pricing for the iPhone 4S plans.

I have been using the Galaxy S2 for about 2 months now. After spending about 2 years with the iPhone 3GS, I renewed my Singtel contract in July and got the Samsung Galaxy SII. To be very very honest, I don’t miss the iPhone!

I love the iPhone 3GS. That’s why I didn’t upgrade to a iPhone 4 when it was launched last year. I wanted a phone with better reception and longer battery life.

Better Reception & Longer Battery Life

Samsung Galaxy S2 gives me better reception and longer battery life. My phone calls didn’t get drop as often when going into the lift. And I don’t have to recharge the Galaxy S2 every 8 to 10 hours. I can use the Galaxy S2 for up to 2 days with recharging.

The Samsung interface for Andriod is ok. I got used to it within 2 days. Apple iOS is still superior in this aspect. Apple iPhone OS is a lot more intuitive.

Great Phone Camera

I like the quality of the photo taken by the Galaxy S2 8MP camera. It gives sharp picture in bright outdoor and usable photos in low-light enviroment. You can also adjust the exposure to compensate for extreme lighting condition. In addition, the camera app has built-in editor for you to crop your images.

Email App

I don’t like the email app. It is slow and not intuitive to use. So I do not download to read email messages unless I think it’s urgent and important. I rather access my email on my MacBook.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Many iPhone users complain about the limitation of sharing files over Bluetooth**. One reason I switch to an Andriod phone is because I wanted to try out first hand the advantage of using Bluetooth to transfer file. Honestly, after 2 months, I still don’t see myself using this Bluetooth transfer frequently – I only transferred via Bluetooth 3 times so far.

Why?

Because I used Dropbox. I find it more convenient to transfer files via Dropbox App between my Galaxy S2, iPad and MacBook.

The HP Touchpad was officially launched in Singapore on 12 Aug 2011. You have seen the HP Touchpad ad in the newspaper and TV Commercial. So you are tempted by the cheap price as compared with the iPad 2 and the rest of the copycats.

So, should you buy the HP Touchpad?

The answer is NO.

The several HP Touchpad reviews that I’ve read indicated that this is an “obsolete” tablet.

Why is it Obsolete?

Because it was developed with iPad (1st generation) in mind and to compete with a product obsoleted by iPad 2.

Heavier, Thicker & Few Apps

If you compare the HP Touchpad to the iPad 2, physically, the former is heavier and bulkier. And, of course, it has very few apps compare to what you could install on an iPad.

The HP Touchpad and the WebOS is doomed.

In fact, I just got the news that HP will kill off this 6-week old product.

Unless you are an ultra-geek or a collector, don’t waste the money to buy the HP Touchpad because of the aggressive ad campaign.

It was announced last month that Singapore will get it’s Apple iPad 2 in April 2011. Finally, the iPad 2 was launched on April 29, 2011. The cheapest iPad 2, the 16GB WiFi model costs S$668 and the most expensive 64GB with 3G costs S$1,108.

There were rumours that the new iPad 2 price will be lower than that of the iPad in the initial launch due to the stronger Sing Dollar. But who’s complaining about the price? It’s the delay of the launch in Singapore that upset Apple fans in Singapore.
