Desperately looking for female plastic surgeons? Apparently there are very few woman doctors in Singapore who specialize in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine.

Why No Female Plastic Surgeon in Singapore

According to Dr Cheng’s blog, two sisters “had been desperately looking for a female cosmetic surgeon to help them get rid of their unwanted fat for years!”

It was surprising that even Google could not help them to locate some female plastic surgeons in Singapore. The closest female surgeon who could help them to remove unwanted fats was in Indonesia.

Maybe it’s because there are too few female doctors and even fewer female surgeons in Singapore.

Maybe MOH should get NUS to accept more women to study medicine.

Top fashion designers are men. Top makeup artists are men. Top plastic surgeons in Singapore are men e.g. Wuffles Wu, Ivor Lim,…

Also most women prefer male gynaecologists.

Even though there is demand for female plastic surgeons and female doctors, there are a lot more women prefer a man doctor or couldn’t care less if their doctors were men or women.

According to the report in The Straits Times, there is no ban on aesthetic treatments in Singapore. However, doctors should not offer unproven procedures. The aesthetic treatments in question include mesotherapy, stem cell therapy and endermologie.

MOH View On Aesthetic Treatment Was Not Correctly Reported

MOH announced in a press release yesterday that the recent local media reports were not correct.

“Recent reports by some local media on aesthetic treatment have not correctly reflected the Ministry of Health’s position on this subject.”

“Because I’m not familiar with mesotherapy, I don’t even know what it is. So let’s leave it to the professions to sort it out,” said Mr Khaw. I think that’s a sensible thing to do and I respect the Health Minister for admitting his lack of understanding on aesthetic medicine.

“Doctors are supposed to do what they think appropriate, taking into account possible benefits, and then possible risks. So that’s a decision which doctors have to make all the time. Because if they fail to do that, they could be subject to investigation,” said Mr Khaw.

What is Mesotherapy?

What I understood from the recent MOH ban on aesthetic treatments was from the local news portal. And my knowledge of these aesthetic procedures are limited to my research on the Internet.

If you were reading about the news report on the controversial ban over the past 3 days, you will come across all sort of esoteric terms like carboxytherapy, endermologie, microneedle dermarolller and mesotherapy.

But one cannot believe everything the news said or can we?

Inside Scoop: Quoted When No Comments Were Made!

What really puzzled me was that the ban on aesthetic treatment was applicable to medical clinics registered with MOH and not applicable to aesthetic centers, beauty salons and etc. It doesn’t make sense, does it?

Does it mean that I cannot go to a medical clinic to have mesotherapy procedure done by a medical doctor but I can get it at aesthetic center performed by a beautician?
