I talked to 3 of my friends who visited the IT Show 2009 and all said this year’s show is no different from last year – “just as crowded”. In fact, the organizer of the IT Show said that he expected more revenue this year because people waited since last December to make purchase at this year’s IT Show.

Now top business schools in the US are offering executive programs to help CEOs to weather the global economic downturn. As reported in the WSJ, business schools are busy revamping their offerings to focus on teaching CEOs and top management how to weather a downturn.

CEOs in APAC Are Worried

In Asia, according to a report – “CEOs’ confidence battered” by Singapore’s Straits Times, fewer than one-third of Asia-Pacific (APAC) chief executive officers (CEOs) are confident of their companies’ business prospect for the coming year. The survey was conducted by PwC which included 276 CEOs from APAC.

The Straits Times’ article further reported that “Other findings all point to bosses feeling much more fearful over the prospects for the economy”.

CEOs in US Are Going Back to School

While CEOs in the APAC are worried, top executives in the US were rushing back to schools to learn how to manage “absolutely failing companies”.

Top business schools in the USA such as Wharton are offering executive programs aims to help top management to analyze their own organization, as well as develop a culture of leaders in a challenging environment.

Harvard Business School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business co-taught business leaders how to manage changes and renewal would use material from the financial crisis.

Top Business Schools in APAC Following Suit?

Local universities in Singapore: NUS, NTU and SMU can learn from top US business schools to offer executive programs for CEOs to regain their confidence and lead their companies out of this economic downturn.
